Beer is for everybody at Apex Brewery
The Monroe, N.Y., brewery, which opened in October 2019, takes pride in creating something for everyone: from pale ales and hard seltzer to stouts and sours. Apex will be one of seven local craft beverage producers pouring unlimited tastings at the Black Dirt Beer Bash in Chester on September 18.
David Holm knows beer: prior to opening Apex Brewery in October 2019, the Orange County resident was brewing beer out of his home for 17 years.
“Newburgh (Brewing Co.) hadn’t even opened at that point, there were no craft breweries in Orange County,” said Holm.
His passion for craft beer is evident: He remembers his first, a Sierra Nevada at Small’s Jazz Club in New York City.
Today, Holm is running Apex Brewery in Monroe, N.Y., a microbrewery that crafts a selection of suds for every palate: from sours, stouts, and pale ales, to hard seltzer.
“We were the first people in the county to do seltzer,” said Holm. “And its gotten rave reviews, which is nice.”
Derby Booty
“We think beer is for everybody,” said Holm. On top of a wide selection, the Apex also makes a point to provide multiple low-ABV options, which are hard to come by at most local breweries.
His other passion, roller derby, is highlighted in small touches around Apex: the tap pulls at the bar are all topped with roller-skate wheels, and some draughts, like stout “Derby Booty,” have names inspired by the sport.
Apex will be one of the many local breweries at Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center sampling unlimited beer tastings at the Black Dirt Beer Bash on Saturday, Sept. 18.
“Honestly,” Holm said, “the best part is having a product and seeing people enjoy it.”
