Panhandler Threatens to Push Boy onto Subway Tracks
According to a 13-year-old boy’s father, at 3 pm on Monday, September 4, his son entered the Broadway and West 103rd St. subway station. When the boy reached the turnstiles, a stranger approached him and asked if he would pay for his fare. The boy ignored the man and continued to the southbound platform. The man followed him to the platform, cracked his knuckles and demanded money before threatening to push the boy onto the tracks. The lad ran upstairs and exited to the street.
Shoplifter Arrested after Attacking Store Loss Prevention Officer
Police said that at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, September 6, a 55-year-old man entered the Burlington store at 808 Columbus Ave. between West 98th St. and West 99th St., took merchandise and tried to leave without paying. A male loss prevention officer attempted to stop the suspect from leaving when the suspect rammed the officer and punched him in the face. The employee refused medical attention at the scene, and Gilbert Orama was arrested and charged with robbery. The merchandise stolen and recovered included a black statue, a pack of socks, Van Heusen T-shirts, Izod T-shirts and a watch, totaling $69.
Man Robs Bar and Threatens Employee
According to police, at 1 pm on Saturday, September 9, a 25-year-old man entered the Broadway Dive bar at 2662 Broadway at West 101st St. He said he was waiting for some friends and asked for a glass of water. He also used the restroom and inquired about the price of a tequila. Then he went behind the counter and took a cash box containing $300. A female employee confronted him, but he pointed his silver firearm at her, saying, “Stay back, bitch!” The suspect then exited the location through the front door, heading to West 104th St. There were no injuries, and a search of the neighborhood proved fruitless.
Police Seek Woman’s Abusive Ex-Boyfriend
A 31-year-old woman told police that at 6 am on Wednesday, September 6, she got into a verbal dispute with her ex-boyfriend, the father of her children, inside the Frederick Douglass Houses at 868 Amsterdam Ave. at West 102nd St. Her ex then placed both of his hands on her neck, causing her to fall into a stupor, giving her a sore throat and leaving a visible mark. He also bit her on her right arm. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find him and continue seeking him for questioning.
Senior Assaulted by Stranger on Street
A 64-year-old man reported that at 2 pm on Saturday, September 9, he was walking northbound outside Broadway and West 104th St. when a 41-year-old male stranger approached and accused him of taking his belongings. The stranger then tackled the senior to the ground, causing him pain and injuries. The senior was bleeding from his mouth and nose. He also said that his assailant had placed him in a chokehold by wrapping his arm around the senior’s neck, causing pain. The senior did not lose consciousness but was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment, and his assailant Michael Eagen was arrested and charged with assault.
