    Mugger Snatches Subway Rider’s Phone

    A 24-year-old woman told police that at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, she was sitting on a bench on the northbound platform of the Broadway 96th St. Station when an unknown stranger approached and tried to take her phone from her hand. She and the suspect struggled over the device until the suspect succeeded in taking it. She then grabbed the suspect from behind, when the suspect threw her phone onto the tracks and fled to parts unknown. A search of the neighborhood produced no results.

    Three Youths Arrested in Smoke Shop Raid

    According to police, at 9:18 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, three young men, ages 18, 17 and 14, entered the Convenience on Columbus smoke shop at 550 Columbus Ave. near West 87th St. to inquire about products on sale. When the store’s male employee asked the quartet for ID’s the young men became verbally combative. When the employee then told them to leave they refused, and one of the suspects smashed the counter glass while another helped him remove merchandise. The third suspect held the door open, enabling their escape. Malik Steele and the two minors were arrested and charged with robbery. The stolen item was a cylinder of marijuana priced at $1,200.

    Police Seek Acquaintance Who Robbed Man

    A man living at 166 West 87th St. near Amsterdam Ave. told police that at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, an acquaintance entered his apartment by pushing through the front door, flipping him out of his wheelchair. The acquaintance then stole $90 in cash from the victim’s bed before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction. The victim suffered a minor laceration to his right index finger but refused medical attention. Police couldn’t find his acquaintance in the neighborhood.

    Police Nab Man after Assault inside Dunkin’ Donuts

    Police reported that at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, a 27-year-old man struck a 67-year-old man multiple times in the face, causing lacerations and physical injury, inside the Dunkin’ Donuts store at 2600 Broadway at West 98th St. Joseph J. Ohana was soon arrested and charged with assault. The police report did not explain the reason for the attack.

    Son Picked Up after Attacking Mother

    A 65-year-old woman told police that at 6:20 p.m. on Friday, December 1, her 32-year-old son pushed her against a wall inside her residence at 70 West 95th St. near Columbus Ave., causing a small laceration on her right hand, a bump above her left eye, swelling to the bridge of her nose and red bruises on the left side of her face. She refused medical attention, and her son John S. Dorio was arrested and charged with assault.
