Out-of-Towner Victimized in Unprovoked Street Assault
A 59-year-old man from Pomona, NY told police that at 9:57 a.m. on Friday, May 20, he was crossing the street at the northeast corner of Eighth Ave. and West 26th St. when an unknown man struck him in the head multiple times with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim suffered minor bruising and swelling to the back of his head and was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment. Police said the assault was unprovoked, as there been no interaction between the two parties prior to the incident.
Man Loses $15,000 Rolex Watch in Mugging
A 43-year-old man reported that at 3:55 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, he was going to the deli for a sandwich when a 32-year-old man approached in front of 353 West 17th St. near Ninth Ave. and asked if he wanted to buy some jewelry. The 43-year-old agreed but, after realizing the jewelry was fake, told the younger man he was no longer interested in purchasing anything. At this the younger man grabbed the victim’s own watch from his left wrist, saying, “Give me the watch, white boy!” A fight ensued, and the suspect removed the victim’s watch with force before fleeing the location, heading westbound on West 17th St. The stolen watch was a 42mm Rolex Submariner worth $15,000.
CVS Employee Injured in Store Robbery
A 30-year-old female employee of the CVS Pharmacy at 500 West 23rd St. near Tenth Ave. stated that at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, a man entered the location, jumped over the pharmacy counter and removed merchandise without permission or authority. As the suspect exited the location he pushed the employee down to the floor, causing her soreness in her lower back and arm. The suspect was last seen fleeing southbound on Tenth Ave. on foot. The stolen merchandise included various Promethazine formulations totaling $314 in value.
Arrest Made in Street Attack
According to police, a 46-year-old man said he had just gone to the post office at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, when a 59-year-old male stranger struck him on the shoulder with a large piece of wood, causing redness, swelling and pain, in front of 341 Ninth Ave. at West 30th St. Sulay Secka was soon arrested and charged with assault.
Man’s New Motorcycle Stolen
A 28-year-old man from Ridgewood, NY told police that at noon on Saturday, May 21, he parked his black 2022 Yamaha YZF motorcycle with New York plates 449AW4 at the northeast corner of Dyer Ave. and West 38th St. When he returned at 3 p.m. he found his bike was missing. The victim had an Apple AirTag on the vehicle, which last pinged its location on the Bronx Expy at 2:21 p.m. The victim still had the keys to the stolen vehicle. The bike was valued at $12,000.
