Karen’s Quirky Style Vogues at Hauser & Wirth’s Editions Gallery in Chelsea
Karen’s Quirky Style visits Chelsea’s new gallery on the block, Hauser & Wirth Editions.

Trees are flaunting their blossoms and I’m voguing in wearable art by Engineered by Andrea T. at the Hauser & Wirth Editions 443 W. 18th St. This fantastical pink pouffe mocks the cherry blossoms, embellishing a slim black dress with Andrea’s trademark geometric details—in this case, triangular cut-outs at the shoulder. Goth platform boots balance the extravagant silhouette, which would have overpowered dainty heels.
Swiss-founded in 1992, Hauser & Wirth has 22 global locations, including two in Chelsea. The Editions gallery opened in July 2023. It exhibits contemporary and historical prints and offers public educational programs.
The Editions gallery also houses a bookstore (chock-a-block with enticing art books, magazines, and ephemera) and the Roth Bar functional art installation.
Chelsea art lovers like me may remember savoring cocktails at the previous Roth Bar incarnation at 548 West 22nd Street, or maybe you even remember the Roth Bar at H&W’s first New York location (Est. 2013) at 511 West 18th Street—former location of the Roxy roller rink.
The Roth Bar was first conceived by Swiss artist Dieter Roth in the early 1980s. The bar has popped up from Reykjavik to St. Moritz. Roth’s son and grandsons continue to incorporate industrial artwork made from salvaged materials into each new iteration.
H&W gallery assistant Rachel Adler told me that the Roth Bar at Editions is open to the public during special events. Visit their free educational event, “ENCOUNTERS: experimental performance and film” Sunday, April 28, 12 to 5 PM.
The current exhibition, until April 20, features an intimate creative dialogue in vibrant silkscreens between lifelong partners in art and life, Parisian artists Takesada Matsutani and Kate Van Houten.
Next, Rita Ackermann’s large-scale silkscreens will be at Editions from May 2 to July 26, while her paintings will be displayed simultaneously at H&W’s 542 West 22nd Street location.
