Traffic was snarled through the theater district for several hours on the coldest night on the winter on Feb. 3 as a blaze in a 33 story building triggered a massive response from firefighters.
Fortunately the fire at 1441 Broadway near 47th was squelched in two hours.
An FDNY said it turned out to be a fire in an elevator shaft, which was fairly easy for firefighters to douse. The massive response was warranted because it was a fire in a high rise building.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, although tourists making their way to restaurants and Broadway shows may have been disrupted since the first alarm called in at around 6:52 pm and the fire was declared fully extinguished by 9:52 pm.
