Upper West Side City Councilmember Gale Brewer is hosting a “Civics Wednesday” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wednesday, Jan. 15, to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr’s actual birthday and his National Day of Service. The hours will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and attendees will need to enter through the museum’s 5th Avenue /81st St. entrance.

It will allow her District 6 constituents to engage in some self-guided tours and “leisurely viewing,” her office told Straus News. Brewer will also set up tables with local nonprofits that can provide services to Manhattanites.

Some of the exhibits on offer that day will be “Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300–1350”–which has been covered in the New Yorker–”Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now,” and “Materialized Space: The Architecture of Paul Rudolph.”

People who are interested in attending can RSVP at met.org/cw25, or by calling Brewer’s office at 212-873-0282.
