Groom-to-be Killed On Henry Hudson Parkway Day Before Wedding
Cops say that Kirk Walker, 38, was killed after a car traveling the wrong way slammed into his vehicle near W. 165th St. His cousin died alongside him. The suspected driver of the wrong-way car fled the scene and remains at large as of press time.
Two men were killed in a violent August 24 crash after a driver speeding the wrong way down the Henry Hudson Parkway slammed into their vehicle, police said. One of the fatalities, 38 year-old Kirk Walker, was set to be married the very next day.
Kirk and his cousin–40 year-old Robert McLaurin–were driving a Dodge Challenger in the northbound lane, at around 2:21 a.m., when they were struck by a 2017 Chevy Silverado headed southbound. They were both pronounced dead after being rushed by EMS to NYC Health/Hospitals Harlem.
Police are looking for the 31-year-old man driving the Chevy, who fled the scene on foot. He reportedly had an unidentified passenger with him, who police quickly caught up with. He was not arrested, but was treated for an ankle injury. Both men exited the pickup after it caught fire.
The suspect’s name has yet to be released to the public. He was traveling the wrong way alongside a Toyota Rav4, cops noted, which had debris strike it during the crash. Nobody in that vehicle was injured, and no arrests were made.
Another northbound car, traveling in the right direction, was also caught up in the wreck. The pickup truck driver slammed into that car, an Audi, directly after hitting the Challenger that Walker was driving, injuring a 27 year-old driver and a 28 year-old passenger. Both of those men are in stable condition after being rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
In a heartbreaking quote provided to CBS News, Walker’s morning fiancé Shauntea Weaver said: “We’re supposed to be at my wedding right now. This is supposed to be a wedding at the Royal Manor, not a celebration of death.”
