A 12 year-old boy was shot in the left leg in the Herald Square area on Sept. 15, the cops confirmed to Chelsea News. No suspects have been arrested or identified, and an investigation remains ongoing. Cops said they are looking into whether three men that were seen running away from the scene shortly after the shooting are responsible.

Police officers said that they responded to a 911 call at around 9:07 p.m., where they observed the child bleeding on the sidewalk outside of a Nordstrom Rack at around 30th St. and 6th Avenue. He was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition, and is expected to survive.

Investigators reportedly believe that the child is a migrant staying at a nearby shelter, which is currently unidentified, amNY reported. It is also unclear who he is staying with or what country he immigrated from.

The shooting comes just a few months after an unrelated brawl at 33rd St. and Broadway–just a couple blocks north–ended in a similar shooting. In that June 11 incident, an unidentified 33 year-old man pulled out a knife and reportedly began menacing a hot-dog stand operator at around 8 p.m., before suddenly swinging it in the direction of four men standing nearby.

The gaggle of men then reportedly approached the knife-wielding man and attacked him, with one of them pulling out a firearm and shooting the knife-bearer in the left leg. A throng of pedestrians fled in every direction. Chairs and a bike were also reportedly used as weapons during the battle, although it is unclear who was wielding what.

Shortly after the shots rang out in that incident, a gunman was seen speeding southbound down Broadway on a scooter. Bystanders told the Daily News that the wounded man reportedly began screaming: “‘You shot me! I don’t want to press no charges, I don’t want anyone arrested, I want them dead!’” Another bystander said that he was also screaming for “his money,” although police have not confirmed if he was, in fact, robbed.

The bleeding man was rushed to Bellevue by responding EMS workers, where he was deemed in stable condition.

Two of the four men allegedly connected to that incident, 34 year-old Mamadou Diallo and 31 year-old Mamadou Balde, were taken into custody on assault charges. The other two, including the scooter-riding shooter, are still reportedly at large more than three months later.
